Tis the season for New Year resolutions!

It’s the perfect time to refocus your energy and ensure you’re taking care of yourself. Mental health is a major part of your overall well being, that’s why we’ve shared some helpful mental health tips to try in 2020.

5 Tips For Making Mental Health A Priority This Year

#1 Take Time for Yourself

Many of us have hectic schedules that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed and resentful.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help to share in the load so you have more time for yourself.  If you need some help at work, ask for it.  You can also get in the habit of scheduling time for yourself weekly to do something that makes you happy.

#2 Don’t Feel Ashamed

Many people struggle with mental health issues and you should never feel ashamed if you’re struggling or having a hard time coping.  The New Year is the perfect time to commit to seeking help and talking to someone about your mental health.

#3 Try Something New

Trying something you’ve never done before can be great for your mental health because it will help to improve your confidence.  You can take up running or learn to play an instrument.  Signing up for a class of some sort is helpful because it gives you something to look forward to each week and trying something new is fun!

#4 Add Meditation to Your To-Do Your List

Taking a little bit of time each day to meditate is the perfect way to calm your mind.  There are helpful apps to help you get started such as Headspace or Stop, Breathe & Think.  Practicing meditation and mindfulness is great for your overall mental health and helps to keep you from feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

#5 Be Grateful

Focusing on the positive things in life helps us to refocus our attention on what it is we are truly grateful for – and eventually, we stop focusing on the negative.  You may even want to write what you’re grateful for daily.  This is a great way to train yourself to look at the positives and it’s also extremely beneficial for your mental well-being.

We hope you found our tips helpful and we hope they inspire you to take your mental health seriously this new year.  Now is the time to realize how important making yourself a priority is! Happy New Year!!!
