8 Ways to Stay Safe on the Road this Holiday Season, Youngs Insurance, Ontario

If you’re like most people, the holiday season is a busy time of year! Your to-do list is miles long and you feel the pressure of getting everything accomplished in time.  There are presents to buy, decorations to put up and cookies to bake – all this on top of your everyday responsibilities. It’s important through all the hustle and bustle you don’t forget road safety!

8 Easy Ways to Stay Safe on the Road this Holiday Season

1 | Slow Down

Exercise patience and avoid speeding - speeding to get your errands done will only increase your chances of getting into an accident.  Weather conditions in winter are often wet and slippery so you should adjust your driving to road and weather conditions.

2 | Gas Up

Try to keep your fuel tank full – it’s one less thing you’ll have to worry about in the event you get stranded in bad weather.

3 | Tire Check

Considering the time of year, we’re assuming you have your winter tires on. Make sure you check them often as the cold air can cause tire pressure to drop.  Also, carry an extra tire in your car.

4 | Remove Snow & Ice

Always remove any snow and ice on your car, even the snow on the roof or signal lights.

5 | Always Signal

Make sure your signal lights are working and signal well ahead of time to give other drivers enough notice to stop.

6 | Leave Space

Make sure you to leave even more space between your car and other cars during winter driving.  Stop even further behind the car in front of you at a red light to allow room in case your car starts to slide.

7 | Winter Emergency Survival Kit

Being prepared is crucial during the winter months so we encourage you to carry a winter emergency survival kit, which includes a shovel in your car.

8 | Rethink Your Trip

During inclement weather, the roads may not always be safe to drive on.  Don’t risk it, if the roads aren’t safe, stay home!

From all of us at Youngs Insurance, we would like to wish you a very happy and safe holiday season!
