Precious Tips To Help Get Better At Teaching Your Teenage Driver, Youngs Insurance, Ontario

Regardless of how you feel toward your teenager driving, it’s an essential part of maturing into an adult. Before you and your teenager head out on the road, take a look at these tips to keep them safe and aware!

Five Precious Tips to Help Your New Teenage Driver

#1 Discuss Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is one of the most dangerous habits, and your new driver needs to be aware of all the Ontario legislation surrounding distracted driving.

It’s paramount that you constantly discuss the dangers and consequences that arise from distracted driving, so they are aware of how important this topic really is.

#2 Limit the Number of Passengers

More passengers usually mean more distractions. It is best to limit the number of passengers that your teen can drive with as a way to limit potential distractions. If they are driving with a G1 Ontario Licence they must have G licensed driver in the passenger seat at all times.

#3 Practice, Practice, Practice - Drive with Them Often

You should be taking every driving opportunity as a way to teach them. Allow them to drive with you and practice often. This will expose them to many different driving situations and help them become more comfortable on the road.

Also, make sure you’re on your best behaviour when it comes to driving, and avoid any bad habits.

#4 Discuss Bad Weather Driving

Whether your teenager is looking to get their licence in the summer or winter, they will be more used to one kind of weather condition. It is important that you discuss with them the differences between driving in each season, the possible dangers, and what to look for.

#5 Answer their Questions

As advanced drivers, it is easy to forget what a new driver does and does not know. Allow them to ask any questions they may have and try to answer these questions with as much detail as possible. Be sure to discuss the financial impacts of getting into an accident or getting a ticket.

We hope these tips help and we wish you and your teenager all the best on this new driving journey.
