We all have terrible driving habits that develop over time, mainly due to being comfortable on the road. It’s important to recognize and change these bad habits today!
How often do you hear someone say, “If I had to take my driver’s test now, I’d fail”? As concerning as that is, it is probably the truth. Many people develop bad habits that need to be broken. If you do any of the following you need to change your habits today!
3 Bad Driving Habits that Need to be Broken
Habit 1 | Distracted driving
Anything you can think of that would cause you to take your hands off the wheel or shift your eyes from paying attention to the road ahead is considered distracted driving. In Ontario, distracted driving is considered the use of any hand-held communication or entertainment devices and certain display screens. Not only do these laws apply when you are driving, but they are also in effect when you are stuck in traffic or stopped at a red light.
Habit 2 | Not driving according to weather conditions
If the road is wet, visibility is low due to fog, or there are other weather conditions, you must adjust and slow down! This may seem like common sense but based on statistics, unfortunately, it isn’t. Make sure you give yourself extra time to ensure you get where you need to be on time and can drive according to the road and weather conditions.
Habit 3 | Driving in the left lane
The left lane is solely meant as the passing lane for faster-moving traffic. Also, drivers in the left lane must yield to traffic looking to overtake. If you are cruising in the passing lane you may be creating a dangerous situation for someone behind you.
We hope we have opened your eyes to the potential bad driving habits you’ve developed. Together we can make our roads safer! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us today.
