Position
The Business Development Specialist builds and manages relationships with local organizations, referral partners, and group administrators to drive brand visibility, referral growth, and long-term business growth. This role connects the brokerage to its community through strategic partnerships, events, and outreach initiatives.
This position is responsible for building a consistent referral pipeline and strengthening the presence of the brokerage in the region.
Accountabilities
- Community Relationship Development
- Establish relationships with business and chamber associations, mortgage professionals, real estate agents, property managers, auto and marine dealers.
- Maintain regular contact with referral partners and group administrators.
- Develop mutually beneficial partnership agreements with group associations, local chambers and employer groups.
- Growth & Productivity
- Create and implement referral engagement strategies.
- Monitor referral volume and conversion rates.
- Collaborate with internal team to ensure timely follow-up on community-generated leads.
- Develop cross-promotion initiatives with partners.
- Track and record participation, attendance and basic outcomes of events and activities.
- Event Planning & Community Presence
- Coordinate brokerage participation in trade shows, networking events, charity initiatives, and sponsorships.
- Represent the brokerage at community events.
- Participate in trade shows and sponsored activities as a representative of the brokerages.
- Promote products and services using approved messaging and materials.
- Organize educational seminars related to life, auto, home, recreational, and business insurance.
- Brand Awareness & Marketing Alignment
- Work with marketing team to promote community initiatives.
- Support social media and local PR efforts.
- Ensure consistent brand messaging across all business partners.
- Collect testimonials and partnership success stories.
- Internal Collaboration
- Provide internal team with insights into key community relationships.
- Share referral performance metrics with leadership.
- Support onboarding of new referral partners.
- Ensure documentation and tracking of all community engagement activity.
Education/Experience
- Industry Experience Business
Licence/Certification
- RIBO License required (Registered Insurance Brokers Ontario)
Knowledge & Qualifications
- RIBO Licence with a minimum or 2 years of experience in the insurance industry
- Relationship-building and networking
- Business development mindset
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong organizational and follow-up discipline
- Experience executing trade shows or event activations
