4 Common Mistakes Everyone Makes When Negotiating Car Price, SnapQuote Insurance

When it comes to the price of a used car, it totally depends on how well you negotiate. Check out four common mistakes people make when haggling!

Mistake #1 – Not in a negotiating mindset

Not everyone goes into this type of situation ready to haggle and negotiate for the best price. If you’re not in the right mindset, what’s the point?  You will not be able to get a deal on a used car if you aren’t so don’t waste your time.

Mistake # 2 – Not doing research

Everything from location to car selection (obviously), to mileage, impacts the price of the car. Before you start negotiating car price, make sure you do your homework. Figure out exactly what you want, the typical cost for that car in your area with that mileage so that you’re more informed. Most important, have a number in mind, don’t waste your time on cars you cannot afford.

Mistake # 3 – Not enough patience

Finding the right deal takes patience and that’s why it’s important you don’t rush the process. Especially, considering you are working within a budget and it might take time for something to fit within that budget.

Mistake # 4 – Not knowing where to shop

It’s true, where you buy your used car can impact how much you pay. If you purchase from a private seller, they typically can have more wiggle room with their price as they don’t have the costs a dealership would have.

Having this knowledge in your back pocket will seriously help you through the negotiation process! Good luck!
