When we are tired our reaction time is delayed and our reflexes to our surroundings decrease. AAA Foundation explains;

  1. An individual who has slept for less than 4 hours had an increase of 11.5% chances of getting into a car accident.
  2. 16.5 percent of fatal crashes involve a sleepy driver. 
  3. Missing 18 hours of sleep is comparable to driving with a blood alcohol level of 50 mg.

Avoid driving when you are tired

To avoid getting behind the wheel when you are tired, get a good amount of sleep the night before. If you are up late working on that assignment that you procrastinated on, get a friend or family member to drive you the next day. If you are at a friend’s house watching your fav show, it may be better to spend the night and drive home the next morning. All of these suggestions can prevent an accident caused by driving tired.

It’s very easy to tell yourself you are not tired, and you are okay to drive to your next destination. However, there are a ton of consequences that come with driving when you are tired.
