Smart Ways to Stay Safe While Riding During Deer Season, StreetRider Motorcycle Insurance, Ontario

Staying safe while riding your motorcycle is always a top priority. We’ve created a list of our top safety tips for riding during deer season.

Deer Season Riding Tips

Tip 1: Always Be Ready

Since you know deer sightings are common this time of year, ensure you are extra cautious while riding your motorcycle and always be on the lookout. Keep an eye on the sides of the roads and if you do see a deer, be sure to slow down as there are probably a few more close by.

Tip 2: Leave Extra Space

If you are riding in groups this deer season, it is always best to leave extra space between you and your motorcycle friends in case someone needs to break suddenly to avoid hitting any deer. This will help to make sure you don’t collide with anyone while riding.

Tip 3: Be Weather Conscious

As we all know, the weather around this time of year can be unpredictable and less than ideal. Be sure to check the weather before you go riding as strong winds and rain can make your visibility while riding worse and can increase your risk during deer season.

Tip 4: Check Headlights

Ensuring you have working headlights will help you while riding to see as far as possible and hopefully notice any deer with a lot of extra time.

Tip 5: Avoid Swerving

The best way to avoid any collisions while riding is to start slowing down as soon as you spot any deer. This way you won’t have to swerve into the other lane and risk colliding with oncoming traffic. We recommend riding with your hands over your brakes at all times so you can brake faster. This will help to keep you and others safe.

The beautiful scenery of the fall season may get you riding your motorcycle more. Be sure to stay safe with these tips during deer season.
