Millennials vs. Generation Z

Posted Nov 10th, 2017 in TRENDING

It’s fascinating how the generation we were born in can be so revealing of our personality traits. This got us thinking, what are the major differences between Millennials and Gen Z?

Millennial Generation

Millennials are also known as Generation Y or the Children of Baby Boomers and are statistically stated to be born between the early 1980s – the early 2000s.

Generation Z

Is the generation cohort directly following Millennials, and are also known as Gen Z, iGeneration and Post-Millennials. However, interestingly enough, Statistics Canada categorizes a Gen Z as being born between 1993-2011 – so clearly, there are some discrepancies here.

So, what’s the difference?

Well, let’s start with the personality trait similarities… both are obsessed with the entire online world of social media and everything it produces. However, considering Gen Z’s longer online exposure they definitely take the cake for being more plugged in.

The Huffington Post, explains that Generation Z er’s are less focused than Millennials as they process “information faster than other generations” resulting in lower attention spans.

When it comes to Millennials, they are typically more financially “in tune,” and will more likely click on an online advertisement compared to the less inclined Gen Z er’s.  This is stated to be a result of Millennials coming of age during the recession. That being said, when it comes to making purchasing decisions Gen Z er’s have higher expectations compared to Millennials with regards to the companies they do business with.

Perhaps the greatest difference between these generations personality traits is that Gen Z er’s are more competitive and prefer working on their own. In contrast, Millennials are more collaborative and teamwork oriented, preferring to work in environments that are inclusive.

Regardless of what generation you were born into, we are definitely all one of kind. It’s just interesting to see how much statistically these generations differ. What do you think?
