Materials and Construction
Look for leather and textile materials that have a high abrasion resistance. Make sure leather is treated so it doesn’t absorb water. High-wear and fragile areas should be reinforced with extra layers, padding, or armor. Consider steel plated toes for extra protection. A softer sole will give more grip but won’t last as long. Closures and Fit
Laces make it easy for you to take off your boots and adjust the fit. Look for a boot that has a buckle to strap laces down to avoid them coming undone and catching on your bike. Velcro or buckles can offer a more secure fit than laces but are more common on race boots.
Height
The boot should come up over your ankle and offer you support at the top of the boot. A full height boot offers you the most protection because it supports your ankle and your foot.
