Posted May 15th, 2017 in Motorcycling Tips

Are you thinking of taking your motorcycle on a long distance road trip? Before you take off on your bike, here’s some riding advice.

Long Distance Road Trips, StreetRider Insurance, Ontario

Think Back

What is the longest you have ever ridden? If you haven’t gone too far, give yourself enough time to break up your ride into smaller increments. When you were riding, was there anything bothering you? Eliminate what was bothering you, because the longer the ride, the greater the annoyance.

Before you go

You are ready to go, but is your bike? Take the time to make any repairs or changes to your accessories right before your trip. Upgrade your tool kit and join a tow service in case you need to make repairs along the way. Make sure you have easy access to any gear you might need from your tank bag. Do not forget your flat-repair kit.

Along the Way

When you planned your trip, you gave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination, so don’t speed! Pay attention to the weather and suit up accordingly. Rain gear and electric vests can come in handy.  As you ride, listen to your body. If you are tired stop and get some rest. If you are hungry, eat something healthy and light. Packing vitamins and aspirin is recommended. Remember to keep you, and your bike, hydrated. Carry extra water (2 litres) and get gas before you are out.

Drive Safe

Be aware that road conditions can change quickly. It is crucial that you ride at a speed that allows you to stop. You should also stay back from long-haul trucks.
