If you’re overwhelmed and experiencing some anxiety due to the uncertainties surrounding Coronavirus, try these tips that we think will help you deal with stress.

9 Ways to Deal with Coronavirus Stress

#1 Unplug from the News

Everywhere we look, someone is reporting on Coronavirus. Watching the news and scrolling through social media can feel overwhelming. Take a break from following stories and instead, read a book or something else.

#2 Phone a Friend

Since we have to practice social distancing, now is the perfect time to call a friend! Catching up with friends is a great way to get your mind off this stressful situation.

#3 Get Up and Move

There are plenty of activities you can still do even though your gym has closed.  Look for free workout videos on YouTube; there are many to choose from and you can pick one that’s perfect for your fitness level.  Or, dust off your treadmill and get walking!  Exercising helps release endorphins, which help combat stress.

#4 Listen to Music

Most people will agree that music has a special way of healing worries and stress. Put on some of your favourite songs and get lost in the music.  If you have children at home, have a dance party.

#5 Enjoy Your Favourite Food

Social distancing means we can’t go out to eat at our favourite restaurants, however, we can still order take-out or delivery. Or get lost in recipes you’ve been wanting to make forever!

#6 Try Yoga/Meditation

Stretching and meditating is good for the body, mind and soul! It helps directly target stress induced feelings.

#7 Spring Cleaning

Cleaning is a great way to take your mind off Coronavirus! Get ahead, by cleaning out some drawers and closets. Freeing up some space, getting organized and donating items (when it’s safe to do so) will make you feel better.

#8 Plan Family Activities

Having fun always helps lessen the feeling of stress! Just because you’re stuck inside doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Plan game nights, movie marathons, cooking or baking, dance parties….to name a few.  Get creative and try to make the best of this situation.

#9 Just Breathe

Sometimes, we can’t control what’s happening around us and that can feel scary. Just take a moment to breathe and try to calm any overwhelming thoughts of uncertainty.  Know that we really are in this together - you are not alone. #AloneTogether

We truly hope these tips will help you manage stress. We know this uncertain time will pass, and we will come out stronger and more resilient.
