Becoming a new driver is exhilarating! You don’t have to rely on anyone else, but you do need to know the rules about passengers permitted in your car, as it varies depending on what type of Ontario Driver’s Licence you have.
So much red tape! To clarify some things for you, we’ve listed a break down of the different restrictions based on the different
G1 Licence
A G1-licenced driver can only drive a car with a G-licenced individual who has at least 4 years of driving experience, and they must be in the passenger seat. Some other restrictions include not being able to drive on any 400-series highways or high-speed expressways and not driving between midnight and 5 a.m.G2 Licence
A G2-licenced driver has to adhere to night driving restrictions that fit into 2 categories, the first 6 months and after.
The First 6 Months - if you are under 19 years old, between midnight and 5 a.m. you can only drive with one passenger who is 19 or under in your car. However, if you have a fully licensed driver (with four years or more driving experience) in the car you can have more than one passenger.
After 6 Months - You are allowed up to 3 passengers 19 years or under between midnight and 5 a.m.
