If you have a child who is headed back to school this September, they (and you) may benefit from the following three insurance option discounts. Protecting their personal property while at school.
If your child is away at school, college or university you can extend your current homeowners or tenants insurance to your child. Your insurance can be extended to provide both liability and contents
coverage (insuring their personal property). The only stipulation here is that your child must intend on moving back to your residence at the end of the school year.
Premium discount for occasional drivers.
Is your child attending school, college or university that is more than 100 kilometers from your residence? If so, they may qualify for a discount of 50% off their yearly insurance premium. The great part is that with this option, your child is still gaining insurance history, but at a reduced rate while away at school.Good grades equal an insurance discount.
Aren’t good grades fantastic? I bet you didn’t think they could save you money on your insurance, but they can! If your child receives an “A” average or 80% (or higher) they may be eligible for a 10-15% discount off their insurance premium. If applicable, a copy of the student’s transcript/report card must be made available to their/your insurer.
