Join us and wear an ORANGE SHIRT on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, to help spread the message that every child matters! As part of our 110 Acts of Kindness, we want to bring even more awareness to the #OrangeShirtDay movement.
This year, #OrangeShirtDay is on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, and we are encouraging our employees and YOU to join us and participate by wearing an ORANGE shirt!
Why Do We Wear Orange Shirts?
The goal of Orange Shirt Day is to bring awareness, honour and support Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. We do this by wearing an orange shirt on September 30.
The orange shirts originated from Phyllis Webstad, whose orange shirt was taken away from her at a Canadian Residential school in 1974 on her first day of school. She began this initiative in the hopes to educate people about residential schools and fight against bullying and racism. Simply, her mission is to spread the message that every child matters and that everyone should feel included.
"Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come." - orangeshirtday.org
Today we remember everyone affected by Residential Schools.
Every child matters.
