Intact has recently launched a solution for UBER drivers in Ontario – regardless of where the PPV vehicle is insured.
Intact has arranged a commercial policy with UBER which suggests that the UBER commercial policy will respond if an UBER contracted driver is involved in a loss.
Coverage under this UBER commercial policy through Intact will only apply during Phase 1-3 of the Uber journey and lower limits apply while in Phase 1
Phase 0 (using vehicle for personal use)
Phase 1-3 ( Driver logged into Uber app available to accept trip, driver on route to collect passenger, driver transporting passenger to destination)
While Intact has indicated the commercial UBER policy will respond, the PPV vehicle carrier must be advised if the operator is using the vehicle for Ride Sharing. To date, most carriers have stated they will not allow PPV to be driven for Ride Sharing purposes.
Until our carrier partners present their solution or acceptance of the UBER commercial policy through Intact for UBER drivers, we should only offer UBER drivers one of the 2 solutions presented by Intact or Aviva.
Add 6TN to PPV vehicle policy & charge the appropriate premium. Please note that Aviva is very specific with their limitations for the amount of UBER use. Here are a few key points:
- Use the transportation network for a maximum of 20 hours per week
- Have been licenced G2 in Canada or US for 6yrs+
- Vehicle must be PPV, maximum 8 occupants including the driver
- Not limited to Uber transportation network
Note PPV vehicle policy remarks of UBER use. There is no premium charge & no limitation to amount of UBER use but applies only to UBER’s ridesharing operations
- Uber Select
Excluded: UberEats (unless also participates in ridesharing with Uber)
We will continue to update you as more information is released with respect to ridesharing in Ontario.
